Note to Self: First Gear Is Not Where You Think It Is

My immediate future, originally uploaded by outdoor_type.
I can now add dump truck driver and operator to my list of handy skills. I can safely make this claim because none of you were around today to witness my amazing maneuvers in the Ford F-350 with flat bed and hydraulic lift upgrade (and if you were around today then, well, I’m sorry for cutting you off like that. Also, Cathlic U… I swear I was lost BOTH times we toured your campus today).
Seriously though, I did eventually get the hang of things. But I also learned that the first rule of dump truck driving is you don’t talk about dump truck driving (because that’s when things go downhill. quickly). In any case, I gotta give a big thanks to Brian F. for letting me borrow his truck and for providing technical support over the phone throughout the day (thanks Brian!).
The hauling went pretty well. Most of the illegally dumped refuse has been removed (along with the scarey squatter toilets) and one could almost start planning their spring garden. Only something tells me that the spring garden falls on the to do list somewhere behind heat, and gas, and water, and floors, and a fence, and… Oh the joys of “new” home ownership.
Least you think I was the only one to walk away from the day with new found skills, I would like to point out that should the whole “being a lawyer” thing not work out, Heather could always fall back to a life of crime. She swears she’s not the author of this wikiHow article, but I’m not convinced. I thought it only worked in the movies, but she was able to break into her house in no time at all. It was a great bit of improv, but now I’m a little worried. Everyone knows that credit card door opening is the real gateway “drug” for international thiefs. It won’t be long before she’s practising for a real big heist.
And that’s all I have to say about that, except this… At race start tomorrow morning (9am) it is going to be 34 degrees, feel like 27, and there’s a better than even chance of rain so I’d better go find some warm, dry clothes and maybe a shelter of some kind. Don’t want a replay of the Greenhorn.
