Heading to Big Sky Country

Montana Selected for 5th Edition of Primal Quest!
Based on data from the decennial census, Montana is the sixth least populated state in the nation with 944,632 citizens (meaning they are one of those states with 2 US Senators but only 1 rep in the US House - which is still a heck of a lot better than DC). Montana is however, the fourth largest state by total area at 147,042 square miles. So what it lacks in people it more than makes up for in terrain. And what amazing terrain it is…
With approximately 77 named mountain ranges, 10 national forests, 12 wilderness areas, and over 16 million acres of public lands, Montana (from the the Spanish word for mountain) might be the perfect place for the 5th edition Primal Quest.
Much of the race will take place in one of those, as yet unnamed, mountain ranges. Big skies and big mountains means lots of climbing. In fact, racers in Primal Quest Montana are estimated to experience nearly 100,000 feet in elevation GAIN!
Let’s put that into perspective. The difference between the summit of Mt. Everest and its base camp is 11,500 feet. Teams in the 2008 race will climb over 8 TIMES that amount!
This is getting kind of exciting! Only 186 days left until the start…
