A favourite quote:
A human being should be able to heal a wound, plan an expedition, order from a French menu, climb a mountain face, enjoy a ballet, balance accounts, roll a kayak, embolden a friend, tell a joke, laugh at himself, cooperate, act alone, sing a children’s song, solve equations, throw a dog a stick, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, love heartily, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

A few words about me…
Photographer, writer, musician, reader of books and maps. Practitioner of adventure sports. Dweller of subburbs. Car commuter.
There are other things… Like, there’s a day job, but the day job is boring and I don’t like to talk about it. I would much rather talk about Brian Knight Photography which I created a few years ago with an idea of focusing on photojournalistic-style event coverage and fine art photography. For the past several years I have also worked with local photographer Will Ramos. Together we shoot a good number of the area’s adventure sport races as well as weddings and other events.
I’ve also had a hand in organising adventure sport events. For five years I worked with EX2 Adventures helping to produce local trail runs, off-road triathlons, and mountain bike and adventure races. I’m a frequent editor and contributer to The A List blog (though not lately it would seem).
When not hanging out at races you might find me on the water someplace playing in a kayak, downtown Washington taking photos of the sights, or in a bookstore feeding my reading habit.
A map of the few places I’ve been in the world…
And to honor a special request, here are a few (more or less recent) photos…

And this is me at the 2005 EX2 Off-Road Triathlon.

This is quite a rare photo. It shows me actually racing in the 2004 Blackbeard Adventure race. I’m rappelling off the roof of the hotel.

Climbing the Via Ferrata in much nicer weather.

Hi Brian!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s been a looong time and seems that you are having loots of fun! And working very hard! Not to mention your breathtaking photographs!
I’ve entered the laptop universe! :-) but had quite a few troubles migrating the information from my former PC to this one. And… I can’t find your email in my contacts :(.
If you don’t mind to be in touch, would you please send me your email address again?
Thanks!
Take care, have fun, and hope to see you again soon!
Best from Patagonia,
Ale
I found my way to your blog via Sarah Vowell, specifically your account of her show in D.C. where she turned up late. Thanks, it was a fun posting.
You must have gotten this before, but your opening quote is actually a misquoting of a phrase from Robert Heinlein’s “Time Enough For Love.” Hitchner acknowledges this on his own web site: http://users.idworld.net/dmangels/hitchner.htm
Hey, glad you liked the Sarah Vowell bit. Yeah, I did know about the misquote, but I rather like it better than the original (especially the part about rolling a kayak), so I’ll probably keep it…
